Hualin International Journal of Buddhist Studies 8.1 (2025): i
(This article belongs to the Special Issue Asia-European Exchanges Mediated through Buddhism, Buddhism and Medicine: New Perspectives)
Editorial Note
The papers included in these two special issues in vol. 8, no. 1 (May 2025) of the Hualin International Journal of Buddhist Studies were originally presented at two concurrent conferences held at Magdalene College, University of Cambridge, August 30– September 2, 2024:
- When the Himalayas Encounter the Alps: The Past, Present and Future of Asia-Europe Buddhist and Other Religious Exchanges (five papers included in the special issue of Asia-European Exchanges Mediated through Buddhism);1
- ‘The Healer-King Curing the Three Poisons, while the Master Navigator Overcomes the Nine Misfortunes’: Buddhism and Medicine from an Interdisciplinary and Global Historical Perspective (five papers included in the special issue of Buddhism and Medicine: New Perspectives).2
These papers offer a glimpse into the rich and dynamic scholarly discourse generated by the two conferences. The enduring transmission of Buddhism across vast regions of the East and West, spanning history and medicine, underscores its lasting interdisciplinary and cross-cultural influence. We hope these contributions will inspire further research and ongoing dialogue on the multifaceted ways Buddhism has shaped global engagement.
