The fellowship will enabling him or her to spend three months in a partner university in Europe or North America where he or she will regularly interact with the faculty and students. The professor will work on topics relating to Buddhism and East Asian cultures and deliver discussions in the form of weekly or biweekly meetings, reading one or one group of Buddhist texts, as well as delivering public lectures at the specific university.

The other type of fellowship is for graduate students affiliated with universities in mainland China or another Chinese-speaking country or region. The fellowship enables each student to spend six to twelve months at a partner university in Europe or North America where he or she will constantly interact with its faculty and students working on Buddhism and East Asian cultures such as attending seminars, lectures, etc. When necessary, one fellowship recipient may divide his or her fellowship term between two or more partner universities in Europe and North America.
