Marcus Bingenheimer 馬德偉 is Associate Professor of Religion at Temple University. He taught Buddhist Studies and Digital Humanities for six years in Taiwan, and held visiting positions at universities in Korea, Japan, France, Thailand, and Singapore. Since 2001, he has supervised numerous projects concerning the digitization of Buddhist culture. His main research interests are Buddhist history and historiography, early sūtra literature, and how to apply computational approaches to research in the Humanities. He has written and edited a handful of books and some sixty-five peer-reviewed articles.

He also co-edited (with Benjamin Penny) an anthology of interesting popular religion sources entitled Selected Volumes of the Xu Dishan Collection in the Australian National University Library, 100 vols., (2023), compiled a sectarian scripture library uncovered in fieldtrips, Ming Qing mimi shehui shiliao 明清秘密社會史料擷珍•黃天道卷 (A precious selection of Ming Qing historical materials on secret societies: scrolls from the Way of Yellow Heaven), 7 vols.(2013), and a theme issue of the journal Xinshixue, New History 新史學 (2019) on popular Confucianism (激辯儒教:近世中國的宗教認同).

His main research areas are popular religion and new religious movements in Taiwan, as well as literature and religions of the late imperial period. His monographs include Han Xiangzi: The Alchemical Adventures of a Daoist Immortal (University of Washington Press, 2007) and Die Religionen Chinas (Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht, 2009). He has edited or co-edited several volumes, including most recently From Trustworthiness to Secular Beliefs: Changing Concepts of xin 信 from Traditional to Modern Chinese (Brill, 2023). |

Deng Shengtao gained his Ph.D. in Chinese Studies from the National University of Singapore and is currently a Shuimu Post-doctoral fellow in Chinese philosophy and religion at Tsinghua University. His research interests include Chinese Buddhist philosophy, Intellectual and Social History of Chinese Buddhism, Tang-song Neo-Confucianism, Cross-fertilization among Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism in medieval China. His studies have been published in Universitas: Monthly Review of Philosophy and Culture, Research of Buddhism, Philosophical Review, Religion Studies. His current book investigates the transformation of human nature thought during the Tang-Song transition, analyzing it through the framework of Confucian-Buddhist interactions. |

Ryan Dunch (唐日安) is Professor of History in the Department of History, Classics, and Religion at the University of Alberta. He earned his BA in Asian Studies at ANU (1987), MA in History at the University of British Columbia (1991), and his Ph.D. in History at Yale University (1996). A specialist in modern Chinese history, he is the author of Fuzhou Protestants and the Making of a Modern China, 1857-1927 (Yale University Press, 2001), as well as articles and chapters relating to Chinese Christianity and Christian missions in modern world history. He is also co-editor (with Ashley Esarey) of Taiwan in Dynamic Transition: Nation Building and Democratization (University of Washington Press, 2020). His current research is on missionary publishing in Chinese before 1911. |

Noga Ganany is an Associate Professor in Chinese Studies at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. Her current book project, Origin Narratives: Hagiographic Literature and Religious Practice in Ming China, examines the interplay between cultic reverence and literary writing in a subgenre of illustrated books celebrating the life stories of gods, immortals, and folk heroes. Dr Ganany is a board member of the Society for the Study of Chinese Religions (SSCR) and a board member of the Society for Ming Studies. |

Vincent Goossaert (PhD, EPHE, Paris, 1997) is Professor of Daoism and Chinese religions at EPHE, PSL. He is co-editor of T’oung Pao, a leading journal in sinology established in 1890. His research deals with the social history of Chinese religion in late imperial and modern times, especially Daoism, religious professions, socio-religious regulations, productions of moral norms, and human-divine sociability.

Hu Jiechen, Ph.D. in Religious Studies, is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at Fudan University, where his main areas of research are the history and literature of Daoism and popular religions in late imperial China, especially the Wenchang cult, the spirit-writing communities, the morality books, and the Confucian altars. Lan Yangyang is currently a Post-doc at the Faculty of Sociétés Religions Laïcités Group (GSRL) at the École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE) in Paris, France. She earned her Ph.D. in 2023, from the University of Würzburg, where she focused her thesis on a genre of vernacular poetry, zhuzhici 竹枝詞 (bamboo-branch songs) in pre-modern China, particularly examining poems from Shandong Province. Presently, she is involved in the Chinese Religious Text Authority (CRTA), a comprehensive database of Chinese religious texts. Her research interests include vernacular literature of pre-modern China, religious literature, and the publication culture surrounding religious texts in China.

Dr. Li Wei serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy, Suzhou University. She received her PhD in Buddhism and literature from Hanazono University, Japan in 2018. She specializes in Vinayapitakas and Abhidharma of Buddhist. Associate Professor in the Department of Buddhist Studies at Dharma Drum Institute of Liberal Arts, specializing in the study of Tibetan Buddhism, with a focus on history and culture. Over the years, she has directed several projects related to Buddhist mind-body healing, including the ongoing “Dharma Healing Database: Buddhist Medical Documentation Database Research and Construction” project. Her recent research interests encompass Buddhist body concepts, Buddhist medical treatment, Sino-Tibetan Buddhist exchanges and dialogues, among others. She is the author of “In Between Spiritual Cultivation and Healing: Preliminary Studies on the Healing Practices of Chinese Buddhism from the Six Dynasties to the Tang,” “Longevity, Healing and Liberation in Treasure Literature of the rNying ma School in Tibet,” “Textual Analysis of Dunhuang Manuscripts: the five-spicy taboo,” and various journal articles. Her monograph, The Healing Methods of Chinese Buddhism, is published in 2022.

Yuria Mori was born in Tokyo in 1965. After graduating from the doctoral program at Waseda University’s Graduate School of Letters, Arts and Sciences Waseda with ABD in 1995, he taught as a lecturer in the Department of Eastern Philosophy at Waseda University’s Faculty of Letters. There, he became a professor in 2004, a position he continues to hold today. His research focuses on Daoism in China. In 2020, he earned a Ph.D. at Waseda University. |

Dr Scott completed his PhD in Chinese Buddhism at Columbia University in 2013, and was selected as a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at the University of Edinburgh. He later completed a three-year Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship in the Asian Studies department at the University of Edinburgh before coming to the University of Manchester in September 2017. He is the author of Building the Buddhist Revival: Reconstructing Monasteries in Modern China. |

Ichiko Shiga is Professor in the department of literature, at the Ibaraki Christian University. Her area of research is Chinese popular religion, with a special focus on the historical and anthropological study of Daoism and spirit-writing. Esmond Chuah Meng is currently pursuing a PhD at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Cambridge. He graduated from the School of Humanities at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, with a Master of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours). After completing his studies, he worked as a lecturer at Nanyang Technological University. His research has been published in academic journals such as the Journal of Chinese Religions (2022) and Asian Ethnology (2022). He also co-authored and published the bilingual volume The Nine Emperor Gods Festival in Singapore: Heritage, Culture, and Community (2023).

Lina Wang is currently a Research Librarian at the Research Reference Services Department in the National Library of China. She completed her doctoral studies in Literature at Nankai University, and is presently a postdoctoral fellow at the Philosophy Department in Peking University. Her main research interests are Buddhist texts and their literary forms, including Buddhist history and all genres of Buddhist literature. She spent time at Cambridge University in England as a visiting scholar and at the University of Iowa University in the United States. She is editor of the Studies in History of Buddhism journal at Zhejiang University. She has published monographs including A Study of Gāthasin Buddhist Chinese Translated Scriptures (2016, The Commercial Press) and A Study of the Dajianfu Temple in Tang Dynasty China (2021, National Library of China Publishing House). She has also published over twenty academic papers in journals such as World Religious Culture, Religious Studies and the Journal of North East Normal University (Philosophy and Social Sciences). |

Yi Zhongya is an academic journal editor at the Institute of World Religions, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Nanjing University and completed his postdoctoral research at the Institute of World Religions. Her main research areas include modern Chinese Buddhism, the relationship between Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, and religious publishing culture. She is leading the Youth Project of the National Social Science Fund of China, titled “Studies of Zhou Shujia 周叔迦 from the perspective of modern transformation of Chinese Buddhism”, and has published more than ten academic papers. |

Qijun Zheng, PhD candidate specializing in history of religions in China. He is pursuing his studies in a dual research master–doctorate program at the Department of Religious Studies (Section V) of the École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE-PSL), and at the Department of Anthropology of the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris. His academic interest encompasses Daoism, Buddhism, and popular religions, under the mentorship of Professor Vincent Goossaert. His methodology incorporates the tenets of historical anthropology, philology and ethnography, drawing upon primary sources such as Daoist and Buddhist scriptures, apocryphal texts, spirit-written texts, prophetic treatises, epigraphic inscriptions and press articles. With a gaze of longue durée, he investigates the history of pilgrimages to sacred mountains in China, whilst also discerning the intricate currents of revelation, eschatology and prophecy in China. Peter Zieme (born 1942) is senior researcher at the Berlin Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. He worked for many decades for the project Turfan studies. In his publications he edited several Old Uigur Manichaean and Buddhist scriptures selected from collections of Turfan materials.
古代中亞研究的領軍學者,古代突厥語與中亞宗教史領域國際學界公認的權威。1942年生於德國柏林。1960年至1965年在柏林洪堡大學主修伊朗學、突厥學,1965年至1969年在民主德國科學院東方研究所攻讀研究生課程,1969年獲得洪堡大學哲學博士學位(Dr. phil.)。此後留科學院東方所工作。1970年,進入德國科學院古代史與考古學中央研究所古代東方室工作,1994年起任柏林自由大學榮譽教授。1993年起,轉入柏林勃蘭登堡科學院吐魯番學研究所,並於2001年至2007年間,擔任該所所長。由於卓越的學術成就,被選為巴伐利亞科學院通訊院士、匈牙利科學院榮譽院士、土耳其突厥語學會榮譽會士及多個專業委員會成員。 |
