“The Art and Religion, Rites and Music of Indian Civilization” Lecture Series

Abstract:

This lecture series focused on subjects including, but not limited to, Indian Religion, Poetry/Rhyme, Music, Sculpture, and Astronomy, with the aim to actively promote research relating to Indology. Prof. Li Ling presented three lectures on the following topics:

  1. Buddha beads Fo zhu 佛珠, September 18. Moderated by Zhao You (Department of Philosophy, Peking University)
  2. Zaoxiang liangdu 造像量度 Pratimālakṣaṇa (Image-making and Iconometry) and Ancient Cultural Exchanges, September 28. Moderated by Li Can (School of Asian and African Studies, Beijing Foreign Studies University)
  3. Yakṣa Worship and the Emergence of the Foshuo Guizimu jing 佛説鬼子母經 (Hāritī Sutra), October 16. Moderated by Lü Peng (School of History and Culture of Science, Shanghai Jiao Tong University)
