1 BIAN Huiyuan, Peking University
邊慧媛, 北京大學
邊慧媛,現為北京大學哲學系宗教學系博士後,研究領域涉及印地語語言文學,近現代印度語言文學、中印佛教文化交流。 2010年進入西安外國語大學印地語語言文學專業學習。 受國家留學基金委員會資助,2012-2013年赴印度聖雄甘地國際印地語大學交換學習一年。 2014年進入北京大學外國語學院印度語言文學專業,2022年取得文學博士學位。 學期間,受惠於北京大學佛教典籍與藝術研究中心、旭日佛學網絡以及Frogbear Project,分別前往印度、英國劍橋大學與法國國立東方語言文化學院短期訪學。

Bian Huiyuan is a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Philosophy, Peking University. Her academic interests are centered on Hindi literature, Modern Indian Literature, and Sino-Indian cultural relations. She embarked her academic journey by enrolling in the major of Hindi language and literature at XISU in 2010. Sponsored by CSC, she went to Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya for a one-year exchange program from 2012 to 2013. In 2014, She pursued advanced studies in Indian Language and Literature at PKU. During this time, benefiting from Glorisun Network and Frogbear Project, she undertook short-term academic visits to esteemed institutions such as the Inaclo in France and the University of Cambridge. In 2022, she received a Ph.D. in Indian Language and Literature from PKU.

2 CHEN Jidong, Aoyamagakuin University
陳繼東, 日本青山學院大學
PhD in Buddhist Studies from the University of Tokyo. Previous teaching at Beijing University and Musashino University in Tokyo before being appointed as a professor at Aoyamagakuin University, Tokyo. His research interests cover the history of Ming and Qing dynasty’s Chinese religions (in particular Buddhist history and folk religion), Modern Chinese intellectual history, and Sino-Japanese cultural interactions. He is the author of two mongraphs, Shin Matsu Bukyo No kenkyu: Yangwenhui wo Chushin Toshite 清末仏教の研究:楊文会を中心として (Sankibo, Tokyo, 2003) and Ogurusu Kocho no Shin Matsu Chugoku Taiken: Kindai Niichu Bukyo Koryu no Kaitan 小栗栖香頂の清末中国体験: 近代日中仏教交流の開端 (Sankibo, Tokyo, 2016), and numerous articles in Japanese, Chinese and English.

東京大學博士(文學)。曾任北京大學哲學系講師,現為青山學院大學國際政治經濟系教授。專攻中國佛教史、中日佛教交流史以及近代中國思想史。著作有《清末佛教研究:以楊文會為中心》(2003)、《小栗棲香頂清末中國體驗:近代中日佛教交流之開端》(2016),與龔雋合著《作為“知識”的近代中國佛學史論:在東亞視域內的知識史論述》(2019)。另以日文、中文與英文發表研究論文多篇。

3 CHEN Jinhua, University of British Columbia

Jinhua Chen is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and a professor of East Asian intellectual history (particularly religions) at the University of British Columbia, where he also served as the Canada Research Chair in East Asian Buddhism (2001–2011). He has received numerous grants and awards from major funding agencies for his work on East Asian state-church relationships, monastic (hagio-)biographical literature, Buddhist sacred sites, relic veneration, Buddhism and technological innovation in medieval China, and Buddhist translations. Dr. Chen has published six monographs, edited and co-edited over thirty books, and authored nearly eighty book chapters and journal articles.

加拿大皇家學會院士、英屬哥倫比亞大學東亞思想史講座教授,曾任加拿大國立東亞佛教講座教授(CRC)多年。研究領域涉及東亞政教關係,中古時期僧傳(聖傳)文學,佛教聖地,舍利崇拜,佛教與技術革新,以及佛教翻譯等領域。研究成果包括:已出版六部專著,合編十餘本書籍,發表七十多篇論文。這些成果曾獲眾多基金和獎項,包括日本學術振興會、加拿大國家社科基金和 Peter Wall 高級研究院、德國洪堡基金會和馬普研究所以及美國人文研究中心等機構的研究基金。目前領導一項為期多年的旨在重新建構佛學與東亞宗教重要面向的國際性與跨學科的龐大項目,由加拿大政府資助並得到國際上諸多名校與基金會的支持。

4 CHEN Ke (Kay), Peking University
陳可, 北京大學
Kay Chen (Ch.陳可) is a Master’s Student in the Department of History at Peking University, where she completed the program “Chinese Classics and Philology” organized by the Faculty of Humanities and received her B.A. in History in 2023, together with the “PKU Junior Scholar” award. Her research interest spreads from Buddhist monasticism and praxis to local history, travel writing, geographic thoughts, and cosmology in 3rd-to-8th-century China. Her bachelor’s dissertation attempts to reveal the structural shift of Buddhist monastic space in the mountains by charting monks and monasteries in Zhongnan Shan during the political and religious turbulence from Northern Zhou to Early Tang. She’s currently working on two illustrated texts (圖經) written by Daoxuan in his last days, planning to situate the geographic and cosmological agenda they divulged in an inter-religious debate context, as well as a deeper tradition of prophetic decline in Buddhist historical view.

陳可是北京大學歷史學系2023届本科生,北京大學人文學部“古典語文學”項目畢業生,曾獲“北京大學未名學士”榮譽稱號。現為北京大學碩士一年級研究生,主要研究興趣為中古中國的佛教隱修制度及實踐,以及地方社會、行旅寫作、地理思想以及世界觀念。她的本科畢業論文從終南山的僧人與佛寺出發,力圖揭示佛教山林隱修空間在北周至初唐的政教變遷中發生的結構性變化。她目前正在進行一項有關道宣所撰兩部圖經的研究,希望將其中透露的地理想像和宇宙觀念安置在道宣所處的六七世紀護教文獻群以及佛滅歷史觀傳統之中。

5 CHEN Suyu, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences
陳粟裕,  中國社會科學院

陳粟裕,1983年生,湖北人。中央美術學院美術史博士,2012年入世界宗教研究所博士後流動站,2014年留世界宗教研究所工作,現為中國社會科學院世界宗教研究所宗教藝術研究室副主任、副研究員,中國宗教學會理事。出版有專著《從於闐到敦煌:以唐宋時期圖像的東傳為中心》,並在《世界宗教研究》《美術研究》《敦煌研究》等核心期刊上發表論文三十餘篇。

Suyu Chen, Associate Professor, Institute of World Religions, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2012 with a Ph.D. in Art History. Her areas of research include Buddhist art history and art exchange along the Silk Road. Published a monograph From Khotan to Dunhuang: Based on the Images Spreaded to the East during Tang and Song Dynasties (Publishing House of Local Records, 2014).

6 CHEN Zhinan, University of Washington
陳芷南,華盛頓大學
Zhinan Chen received her Ph.D. from the Department of Asian Languages & Literature, University of Washington, Seattle in 2022. She works on Dunhuang manuscripts, early medieval Chinese texts and intellectual history.

陳芷南於2022年取得了華盛頓大學亞洲語言於文學的博士學位。她的學術研究興趣包括敦煌寫本,中古時期的物質文化,以及文學和思想史。

7 CHEN Zhiyuan, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences
陳志遠, 中國社會科學院
陳志遠,男,1983年生,中國社會科學院古代史研究所副研究員。博士畢業于北京大學歷史學系,曾到日本京都大學,臺灣法鼓佛教學院短期訪學。專業領域爲六朝佛教史、中古佛教文獻、儒佛交涉,最近關注法滅思想、舍利信仰、造像碑銘等話題。近年出版專著《六朝佛教史研究論集》,發表論文20餘篇。

Zhiyuan Chen, born in 1983, is currently the associate researcher of the Institute of Ancient History, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He obtained his Ph.D. in History from the Department of History, Peking University, and has conducted short-term visit at Kyoto University in Japan and Dharma Drum Buddhist College in Taiwan. His research focuses on the history of Buddhism in the Six Dynasties period, Buddhist literature in medieval China, and the interaction between Confucianism and Buddhism. Recently, he is working on topics such as the idea of eschatology, relic worship, and epigraphical inscriptions. He has published a monograph entitled Studies on the History of Buddhism in the Six Dynasties, and some 20 journal articles.

8 CHI Limei, International College for Postgraduate Buddhist Studies
池麗梅, 日本國際仏教學大學院大學
池麗梅,女,中國吉林省吉林市人。日本東京大學文學博士,現任日本國際佛教學大學院大學教授,專注中國中古佛教史和漢文大藏經史研究。專著《唐代天台佛教復興運動研究序説——荊渓湛然とその〈止觀輔行傳弘決〉》重新檢討荊溪湛然的作品及行跡,全面展現了中唐天台復興運動的豐富面相。曾就日本古寫本《續高僧傳》發表多篇論文,既考察了從寫本到刻本的演變規律,又結合道宣生平揭示了文本演變所折射的社會歷史環境脈動。近年研究宋元漢文大藏經史,把文獻置於東亞典籍環流的歷史視野中加以考察,對漢語佛教文獻學的研究具有方法論意義。

CHI Limei, Ph.D. in Literature from the University of Tokyo, currently serves as a professor at the International College for Postgraduate Buddhist Studies in Japan. She specializes in the study of medieval Chinese Buddhist history and the history of the Buddhist Canon. Her monograph, “A Preliminary Study on the Revival Movement of Tiantai Buddhism in the Tang Dynasty: Jingxi Zhanran and his Zhiguan Fuxing Chuanhong Jue“, re-examines the works and biography of Jingxi Zhanran, providing a comprehensive display of the rich facets of the Tiantai revival movement in the middle Tang Dynasty. She has published several papers on ancient Japanese manuscripts of the Xu Gaoseng Zhuan, investigating the evolutionary patterns from manuscripts to woodblock editions, and combining them with the life of Daoxuan to reveal the social and historical context reflected in the evolution of the texts. In recent years, she has been studying the history of the Chinese Buddhist Canons in the Song and Yuan dynasties, examining the literature within the historical context of East Asian textual circulation, which holds methodological significance for the study of Chinese Buddhist literature.

9 Heather CLYDESDALE, Santa Clara University
柯玉珊,美國加州聖克拉拉大學
Heather Clydesdale is an assistant professor of art history at Santa Clara University. She earned her PhD in art history and archaeology at Columbia University and researches cultural exchanges as seen in early medieval Chinese tombs and Buddhist cave temples in China’s Hexi Corridor. Most recently, her scholarship investigates the dynamics of traditional aesthetics and design in contemporary architecture and public spaces.

柯玉珊是美國加州聖克拉拉大學藝術史助理教授。 她在哥倫比亞大學獲得藝術史和考古學博士學位,研究中國河西走廊早期中世紀中國墓葬和佛教石窟寺的文化交流。 最近,她的獎學金研究傳統美學和設計在當代建築和公共空間中的動態。

10 DEEG, Max, Cardiff University

Max Deeg is Professor in Buddhist Studies at Cardiff University. He received his Ph.D. in Classical Indology and his professorial degree (Habilitation) in Religious Studies at Würzburg University, Germany. His main research interest is in the history of Buddhism and its spread; he has researched and published extensively on Chinese Buddhist travelogues. His most recent publications are: Miscellanae Nepalicae: Early Chinese Reports on Nepal—The Foundation Legend of Nepal in its Trans-Himalayan Context (2016), and Die Strahlende Lehre—Die Stele von Xi’an (2018).

11 Imre GALAMBOS, Zhejiang University / University of Cambridge
高奕叡, 浙江大學/(英)劍橋
After having studied for several years in China (Tianjin) and Hungary, Imre Galambos received his Ph.D. from UC Berkeley with a dissertation on the orthography of Chinese writing during the Warring States period. Following his graduation he started working for the International Dunhuang Project at the British Library and became involved in the study of Dunhuang manuscripts and the manuscript culture of medieval China in general. After 10 years at the British Library, he moved to Cambridge in 2012 and to Zhejiang University in 2023.

在中國天津和匈牙利進行了多年的學習與研究後,高奕睿在加州大學柏克萊分校獲得了博士學位,其博士論文為戰國時期中國文字正字法的相關研究。在博士畢業後,高奕睿入職大英圖書館,參與國際敦煌研究項目。由此開始敦煌手稿的研究以及中世紀中國的寫本文化研究。在大英圖書館工作十年後,他於2012年前往劍橋任教,並於2023年轉任浙江大學。

12 GOOSSAERT, Vincent, EPHE

Vincent Goossaert obtained his PhD at EPHE, Paris (Ecole pratique des hautes études, 1997), was a research fellow at CNRS (1998–2012) and is now Professor of Daoism and Chinese religions at EPHE, PSL; he has served as dean of its graduate school (2014–2018). He has been Visiting Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Geneva University, and Renmin University. His research deals with the social history of Chinese religion in late imperial and modern times. He is co-editor of T’oung Pao, a leading journal in sinology established in 1890.

高萬桑,1997年在法國高等研究實踐學院(EPHE)獲得宗教學博士學位,博士論文題為《近代道教的建立—全真道》;次年成為法國國家科研中心專職研究員; 2012年,升任EPHE宗教學系道教史教授。 2017年擔任《通報》共同主編。

14 Genevieve Hauer, University of Colorado, Boulder
王桂薇, 美國科羅納多大學
Genevieve Hauer (王桂薇) is a first year Master’s student in the Religious Studies department at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She holds a BA in Religious Studies with minors in Chinese, Theatre, and Honors Studies from Texas State University. Upon graduating, she spent a year living abroad and teaching English to elementary school children in Taichung with Fulbright Taiwan. She has an extensive background in teaching, currently working as a Teaching Assistant in Religious Studies, and also having worked as a tutor at both her undergraduate and graduate Universities’ Writing Centers. Currently, Genevieve’s research focuses on late Qing to contemporary Buddhism, with the goal to amplify the voices of the Chinese and Chinese-American populations and, in doing so, foster amicable relations between China and the US.

王桂薇(Genevieve Hauer)是科罗拉多大学博尔德分校宗教研究系一年级的硕士生。她在德克萨斯州立大学获得了宗教研究学士学位,并辅修中文、戏剧和荣誉研究。 2022年毕业后,她参加了富布賴特獎學金文化交流计划,在台湾台中市教小学的英语课。 她有丰富的教学经验,她目前在宗教研究系当助教,在本科和研究生大学写作中心担任写作指导。目前,桂薇的研究重點是晚清到當代佛教,旨在放大華人和美籍華人的聲音,促進中美友好關係。

20079-20176月就讀於中山大學歷史學系,師從景蜀慧教授從事中國古代史研究,20176月獲歷史學博士學位。20178-20228月在中山大學哲學系工作,從事博士後、特聘副研究員工作,開展中古佛教史研究。202210月轉聘為中山大學博雅學院副教授,從事中國古代史研究。主要研究方向為六朝思想文化史研究。發表論文《陳永陽王師事智顗事之史實考證與史料考察——兼論內外典互證的意義與方法》,《謝靈運<辨宗論>與晉宋頓漸思想之發展》,《謝靈運<佛影銘>的經典依據與聞法因緣》等,主持科研項目國家社會科學基金後期項目《謝靈運<辨宗論>新探》等。

I achieved my bachelor’s  and doctor’s degree in the Department of History at Sun Yat-sen University from September 2007 to June 2017 successively, where I conducted research on ancient Chinese history under the supervision of Professor Jing Shuhui. Then continued my postdoctoral work, next as a special appointed associate fellow, engaged in the research on the history of ancient and middle-aged Buddhism in the Department of Philosophy at the same university, from August 2017 to August 2022. In October 2022, I was reappointed as an Associate Professor of Boya College of Sun Yat-sen University, conducting studies on the history of ancient Chinese history, in which my main research interest was the history of the Six Dynasties. My published papers include “The Historical Evidence and Historical Examination of the Affairs that King Yongyang Honored Zhiyi as a teacher in Chen Dynasty”, “The Linkages between Xie Lingyun’s <The Theory about Discerning Academic Objectives(Bian zong lun)> and the Development of Buddhism Thought in Jin and Song Dynasties(265-479 AD) “, “The Classical Basis and the Causes Hearing the Related Dharma of Xie Lingyun’s <Inscription on the Shadow of the Buddha(Fo ying Ming)>”,etc. My ongoing project is“The New Exploration on <The Theory about Discerning Academic Objectives(Bian zong lun)>”which supported by the National Social Science Post Fund of China.

宏祥,香港大學佛學研究中心研究助理。主要研究方向為敦煌寫本,佛教文獻學,及中國淨土宗思想史。其先後求學於九華山佛學院,中國佛學院,及佩拉德尼亞大學,並榮獲中國佛教協會留學生獎學金,欽哲基金會博士研究獎學金,及查良镛研究生獎學金等獎項。

HONG Xiang is a research assistant at the Centre of Buddhist Studies of the University of Hong Kong. His primary research interests include Dunhuang manuscripts, Buddhist philology, and the ideology history of Chinese Pure Land Buddhism in medieval China. He has studied at the Buddhist College of Mount Jiuhua, the Buddhist Academy of China, and the University of Peradeniya, and has been awarded scholarships such as the Buddhist Association of China Scholarship for International Students, the Khyentse Foundation PhD Scholarship, and the Louis Cha Postgraduate Research Fellowship.

Ji Huachuan is a senior researcher and professor in the Institute of World Religions, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, where he serves as the Director of the Department of Buddhist Studies. He is the Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Society for Religious Studies, Director of the Committee on Traditional Culture and Religion, and Director of the Buddhist Research Center at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He is also a professor and doctoral supervisor at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. His primary research focuses on the modern history of Chinese Buddhism, Chan Buddhism, and Buddhist literature. Dr. George A. Keyworth is Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada. He received his Ph.D. in Chinese Buddhist Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Keyworth has received grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada to support research about and the publication of peer-reviewed articles on Northern Song dynasty (960–1127) Chinese Chan Buddhism and the figure of Juefan Huihong 覺範惠洪 (1071–1128); Japanese pilgrims to Song China (e.g., Jōjin 成尋 [1011–1081]); apocryphal Chinese Buddhist scriptures and the particular case of the Shoulengyan jing 首楞厳經 (*Śūraṃgama-sūtra) using sources from Dunhuang, Central Asia, and Japan; esoteric Buddhism in Tang (618–907) and Song China; Zen Buddhism in Edo Japan and the figure of Kakumon Kantetsu 覚門貫徹 (d. 1730); and old Japanese manuscript Buddhist canons, especially from Nanatsudera 七寺, Amanosan Kongōji 天野山金剛寺 and the Matsuo shrine 松尾大社 canon kept at Myōrenji 妙蓮寺. Dr. Keyworth is currently working on two books, tentatively titled: A History of Matsuo Shrine and Copying for the Kami: A Study and Catalog of Three 12th century Manuscript Buddhist Canons.

19 Jahyun Kim (Dongguk University)

Jahyun Kim 金慈玄,韓國東國大學

Jahyun Kim earned her doctorate from Dongguk University with a dissertation on Buddhist Illustration Prints of the Joseon Dynasty study. She is working as Research Professor in Buddhist Culture Research Institute at Dongguk University, prior to that She has worked in several Museums. Her research interests not only include on Buddhist Illustration Prints studies but also Buddhist painting and Iconography. Currently, she focuses on changes and background in the Buddhist Iconography according to the period and country.

Jingjing Li is Assistant Professor (Universitair docent) at Leiden University’s Institute for Philosophy. She received her Ph.D. from McGill University in 2019 and has been working at Leiden University ever since. The foci of her teaching and research are Buddhist and intercultural philosophy. She is the author of Comparing Husserl’s Phenomenology and Chinese Yogācāra in a Multicultural World: A Journey beyond Orientalism (Bloomsbury Academic 2022). Currently, she is working on the project “A Lost Pearl: Feminist Theories in Buddhist Philosophy of Consciousness-only,” which has been awarded a Veni Grant (2022-2026) from the Dutch Research Council (NWO).

Born in 1987, Li Meng received his M.A in Shanghai Normal University (2013). and Ph.D in Fudan University(2017). During the year of 2017-2019,he worked as postdoctoral fellow in Renmin University of China. He is associate Professor now in Department of Chinese Language and Literature in Fudan University, specializing in the areas of Literature of Han to Tang, particularly focusing on the Buddhist literature and Buddhist history during the period of Jin and Tang(A.D.266—A.D.907), as well as the history and literature in Six Dynasties(A.D.222—A.D.589). His major publications include the monograph Buddhist Beliefs and Writings of the Qi and Liang Royal Families (2021) and nearly 30 academic papers on the scholar journal both in the mainland China and Taiwan.

Ma Xi is a PhD student at the School of Literature,Nankai University.He obtained his master’s degree in History from Sun Yat-sen University with his thesis “A Study on Private ordination in Tang Dynasty Buddhism.” Currently, he is working on his dissertation, which explores Buddhist inscriptions in the middle and late Tang Dynasty. In 2021, he was honored with the “Outstanding Young Scholar Paper Award” by the 15th Annual Conference of Chinese Buddhist Texts Society.

She graduated from Hiroshima University with a doctoral degree. Her main research areas include Dunhuang Studies, East Asian Buddhist rituals, and East Asian Buddhist history. Yian Emily Ren is a current graduate student at the Center for East Asian Studies at Stanford University. Her academic interest centers on late Heian and medieval Japanese Buddhist art and material culture. She is also interested in the artistic and doctrinal exchange between China and Japan within the Buddhist context. Her current project focuses on child images, using them as a lens to examine the place of children in Buddhist cosmology and the perceptions of children within medieval Japanese monastic communities. Emily received her BA in Art History from New York University.

Daoxin Shi received her Ph.D. from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka. She is currently an editor in the Editorial bureau of Haichaoyin (Chinese and English), Buddhist College of Minnan in Xiamen. Her main research interests are the thoughts of Ven. Fafang and Chan Buddhism. Future studies will focus on the history of Chinese monk students studying in Sri Lanka the Republic of China and Buddhist mindfulness meditation. She has published her English book titled “Practical Perspectives on Buddhist Psychology of Five Aggregates as Depicted in the Pāli Canon”, participated in Chinese and English academic conferences approximately ten times in China and abroad, and issued Buddhist essays and translations on the internet for nearly ten, all of them were about Ven. Fafang, Ven. Fazhou, Buddhist mindfulness meditation, and Buddhist kingcraft political theory, etc.

Gufu Shi has been studying in the Minnan Buddhist College since 2015, when he was admitted into the college. Since 2019, he has been studying as a MA and doctoral student in Minnan Buddhist College, and he has been carefully guided by Professor Ru Zhan of Peking University. His area of interest is Ming Buddhism, especially the relationship between state and samgha during the Ming Dynasty. During these years of studying at the Buddhist Academy, he has published several articles on Ming Buddhism in related internal Buddhist magazines. His MA thesis is about Zhu Yuanzhang and Buddhism, with a focused discussion on the relationship between Zhu Yuanzhang and Buddhism through the following three aspects: Buddhist life, thought and policy of Zhu Yuanzhang.

Minghang, a Ph.D. student at Minnan Buddhist College, has a research interest in Buddhist communication. She has completed her doctoral dissertation entitled “Yinling renhai sichao: Cong Haichaoyin kan Zhongguo Fojiao de xiandaihua chuanbo” 引領人海思潮——從<海潮音>看中國佛教的現代化傳播 [Leading the Trend of Thought in the Sea of Humanity: Spreading of Chinese Modern Buddhism from the Perspective of the Haichaoyin]. In the course of pursuing her MA degree, she studied the Three Treatise Tradition (Sanlun zong), and presented a paper “Jizang dashi “jiaming” sixiang de yuanyuan he zhiqu” 吉藏大師“假名”思想的淵源和旨趣 [The Origin and Purpose of Master Jizang’s Thought on Jiaming (Skt. Prajñapti; Designatory Label)] at the “Fifth Symposium on Buddhism and Jinling in the Southern Dynasties”. After graduating from Nanjing Normal University in Jiangsu Province, she became a nun and studied at Jiangsu Nizhong Buddhist College based at Jiming Temple, Nanjing, and studied at Minnan Buddhist College for master’s and doctoral degrees, and is currently applying for a doctorate degree from the College.

SHI Shang, born in 1996, graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He is currently a PhD student at Capital Normal University in Beijing. His research interests include wall paintings in grottoes and temples, religious art of the West-Region in the middle ancient period, aiming to explore the multi-origins of Chinese culture and art under the trans-cultural horizons of the Euro-Asia continent. There are three published papers/scholarly translations/book reviews by him, focusing on the polychromy of the Yungang Grottoes, central Asian metalworks in China, and the “Ambassador Hall” of Afrāsiāb, Samarkand.

His main research interests include East Asian Buddhist thought, with a focus on Tiantai, Huayan, Chan, and Pure Land traditions, as well as the application of digital technologies in Buddhist text analysis. He is currently researching the exchange of East Asian Buddhist thought in the 10th century through the Kangyōso-kenyōki-hamon(『觀經疏顯要記破文』), a text created in Japan in response to a request from China.

His main research areas are Chinese medieval history, especially the history of Taoism and Buddhism, as well as the study of inscriptions and statues. She also serves on the board of the Chinese Society of Religious Studies and has been appointed as a special researcher in Fo Guang Shan Institution of Humanistic Buddhism. Her main research areas include the theory of religion, Buddhism and the history of related religions. WANG Zhaoguo/Ding Yuan, currently associate professor at the School of Philosophy, Law and Politics of Shanghai Normal University, graduated from Minnan Buddhist College (Xiamen) in 2001. In 2008, Ding Yuan got the Master’s degree from Kyoto Garden University and then received the doctor’s degree from Tokyo International Buddhist Graduate University in 2011. From 2011 to 2013, Ding Yuan worked as researcher in the Institute for Study of the Japanese Ancient Buddhist Scriptures in the International Buddhist Graduate university. His research directions have included the study of Dunhuang manuscripts, Japanese ancient scriptures and digitization of research on Buddhist scriptures. Also, he has held and completed the national social science project “Cataloging and Research on the Dunhuang remains in Xingyu Bookstore” and “Cataloging, Sorting and Research on the Chinese ancient Buddhist documents seen in Japanese ancient scriptures” (Project number No: 21BZJ006). As the sub-project leader, Ding Yuan participated deeply in two major national social science projects, including “Dunhuang Manuscript Database construction” (completed) and “Cataloging Research on the Dunhuang Manuscript in the British National Library”. Ding Yuan’s published monographs include “A study on the philology of the Dunhuang edition of the Scriptures of the prajnascriptures of Vajra Prajna” (published by Tokyo Daito Press, June 2013), “Essays on the Buddhist Literature” (published by Guangxi Normal University Press, April 2017), and “A Chronicle of the Toutuo Temple” (published by Religious and Cultural press, October 2021). Hao (Wendy) Wu is a master student in Regional Studies: East Asia at Harvard University. Wendy’s academic journey has been shaped by the fascination with the intertwined histories of humanity. This curiosity led her to delve into Buddhist art history, with specific focuses on the artistic exchanges through maritime trade routes and the Silk Road. Her current research project explores the 13th-15th century religious interactions between Fujian and Java, and the ritualized reuse of Hindu artifacts in Quanzhou Kaiyuan Temple as a consequence of such interactions. She has received grants from the Victor and William Fung Foundation Fund from Harvard Asia Center to support her research. Beyond research, Wendy is also passionate about sharing the beauty of Buddhist art with a wider audience and serves as a public interface educator at Harvard CAMLab.

Wu Shaowei is an Associate Professor at Shandong University. His primary research areas include Sui-Tang history, Dunhuang Studies, and Buddhist history. He has published over twenty academic articles, including “A Study on the Literacy Rate of Buddhist Monks in Dunhuang during the Late Tang, Five Dynasties, and Early Song Period”, “The Reasons for Dunhuang Monks Residing in Secular Families during the Late Tang, Five Dynasties, and Early Song Period: A Socio-Economic Perspective”, “The Unknown Monk’s Mountaineering Career: Daily Scripture Copying and Textual Criticism Activities of Monks in the Medieval Period”, and “From Veneration to Restriction: Two Eras in the Life of Monk Yihong during the Tang Dynasty”. His recent research interests focus on the production of Buddhist sutra copying in ancient China, the literacy rate among monastic communities, and the Huichang Persecution of Buddhism.

吳羽,中山大學歷史學系博士,2007年至2021年4月在華南師範大學歷史文化學院任教,2021年5月至今為華南師范大學美術學院教授,2010—2015年曾在武漢大學歷史學院做博士後研究。主要研究領域為南北朝至宋代的道教、國家禮儀和時間觀念,以及明清時期廣東的佛教與藝術。已出版專著《唐宋道教與世俗禮儀互動研究》(2013年),在《中國史研究》《“中央研究院”歷史語言研究所集刊》等學術刊物發表論文近50篇。

WU Yu obtained his PhD at the Department of History at Sun Yat-sen University. He had been a teacher in the School of History & Culture, South China Normal University (2007–2021) before becoming a Professor of School of Fine Arts, South China Normal University. Between 2010-2015, he worked as postdoctoral fellow in the School of History, Wuhan University. His main research areas are history of the Southern and Northern Dynasties to the Song Dynasty, especially the history of Taoist,national etiquette and Time concept, as well as the study of Buddhism and Art in Guangdong during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. His major publications include the monograph Study on the Interaction Between Taoist and Secular Etiquette in Tang and Song Dynasties (2013) and nearly 50 academic papers in journals such as Journal of Chinese Historical Studies中國史研究, The Bulletin of Institute of History and Philology Academia Sinica 中央研究院歷史語言研究所集刊.

楊寶玉,1982-1989年就讀於北京大學並獲文學學士與文學碩士學位,1989年至今供職於中國社會科學院,現任古代史研究所研究員(專業二級),兼任中國社會科學院大學歷史學院教授、博士生導師,國務院政府特殊津貼專家。主要從事敦煌學研究,已出版《歸義軍政權與中央關係研究》(合著一作)、《敦煌本佛教靈驗記校注並研究》、《敦煌文獻探析》、《敦煌滄桑》、《英藏敦煌文獻(漢文佛經以外部分)》第9-11及15卷、《敦煌學目録初探》(合著二作)等,發表學術論文百餘篇。

Baoyu Yang received Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts both from Peking University. She is a senior researcher in the Institute of Ancient History of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and is a professor and a doctoral supervisor in UCASS. She is a recipient of special government allowance from the State Council. Her major research focuses on Tunhuangology, and has authored several monographs, including The Relationship between Guiyijun Regime and the Central Government (Lead Author); Annotation and Research on the Buddhist Efficacy Stories from Dunhuang Manuscripts; Analysis of Dunhuang Manuscripts; History of Dunhuang Region and Dunhuang Arts; Dunhuang Manuscripts in British Collections (Chinese texts other than Buddhist scripture), volumes 9-11,15; Research on the Catalogues of the Dunhuang Manuscripts (Co-Author) and more than 100 other academic papers.

Lei Ying specializes in the interdisciplinary study of religion and literature, especially the interconnection between Buddhism and modern Chinese literary and intellectual history. Her work has appeared (or is forthcoming) in Journal of Asian Studies, Journal of Buddhist Studies, PKU, A New Literary History of Modern China (Harvard University Press, 2017), Religions, and Journal of Chinese Literature and Culture, among others. She received her Ph.D. from Harvard University as a Presidential Scholar, and teaches Chinese and Buddhist literature at Amherst College.

Yu Chun, PhD, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the School of Cultural Heritage, Northwestern University. Her main research topics are Buddhist archaeology, Qinghai Tibet Plateau archaeology, and public archaeology teaching and research. Yu Chun has published five Buddhist archaeological reports and works in Sichuan and Shaanxi regions, in addition to these reports she has also published more than 50 research papers. In 2014 she received funding from the China Scholarship Council for a research semester in Waseda University in Japan.

Yu Chun is currently supervising two national social science fund projects and a key project for Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education, she has previous completed several projects for the Ministry of Education and the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Education, in addition to participating in major research projects of philosophy and social sciences of the Ministry of Education, and she has led multiple provincial and school level teaching reform projects.

Her work to date has received several awards, including the Third Prize for Excellent Achievements in Philosophy and Social Sciences at the 15th Sichuan Provincial Congress, the Third Prize for Excellent Achievements in Philosophy and Social Sciences at Shaanxi Provincial Universities in 2017, and the Second Prize for Excellent Achievements in Philosophy and Social Sciences at the 9th Xi’an Municipal Congress. She received third prize in the third National College Teacher Teaching Innovation Competition, first prize in the third Shaanxi Province College Classroom Innovation Competition and first prize in the first Northwest University Classroom Innovation Competition, in addition to the Northwest University Teaching Award.

于薇,東南大學藝術學院副教授。本碩就讀於中央美術學院美術史系,博士畢業於復旦大學獲歷史學博士學位。先後前往紐約大學古代世界研究所、東京大學東洋文化研究所及哈佛大學建築與藝術史系訪問交流。目前從事中古佛教藝術,漢唐物質文化與藝術史,亞洲藝術、宗教與文化交流研究,正在進行的課題包括五代兩宋「阿育王塔」研究、棲霞山佛教石刻與20世紀中國美術等,已出版專著《聖物製造與中古中國佛教舍利供養》。

Associate Professor of Southeast University, Yu WEI received her BA and MA degrees from the Department of Art History at Central Academy of Fine Arts, and her PhD degree in History from Fudan University. She has visited and exchanged with the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World at New York University, institute for Advance Study on Asia at Tokyo University and the Department of Architecture and Art History at Harvard University. She is currently engaged in the study of Buddhist art in the Medieval period, material culture and art history from Han to Tang dynasties, and Asian art, religion and cultural exchanges. She is currently working on the project of the Ashoka Pagodas in the Five Dynasties and the Song Periods, Buddhist stone carvings in Qixia Mountain and Chinese art in the twentieth century, etc. She is also the author of the book “Making Sacred: Buddhist Relics and Reliquaries in Medieval China”.

Zhan Ru is a professor in Peking University’s School of Foreign Languages. 張利明,男,1992年生。蘭州大學歷史學學士、考古學碩士,師從魏文斌教授;浙江大學歷史學博士,師從孫英剛教授。研究方向為中國佛教史、佛教藝術與考古。在《敦煌研究》《藝術設計研究》《形象史學》《石窟寺研究》《澎湃新聞》等學術期刊和媒體上發表論文多篇。在江蘇鳳凰美術出版社出版著作《西遊記壁畫與玄奘取經圖像》(合著,2019年出版,2021年重印)。目前正參與孫英剛教授主持的國家社科基金重大項目「犍陀羅與中國文明交流史(多卷本)」(20&ZD220)。

Zhang Liming: born in 1992; B.A. in History and M.A. in Archaeology from Lanzhou University, under the supervision of Prof. Wei Wenbin; Ph.D. in History from Zhejiang University, under the supervision of Prof. Sun Yinggang. His research interests include Chinese Buddhist history, Buddhist art and archaeology. He has published numerous papers in academic journals and media, such as Cultural Relics, Dunhuang Research, Art Design Research, Image Historiography, Study on the Cave Temples, and The Paper. He published his book Paintings of the Journey to the West and Paintings of Xuan Zang’s Pilgrimage for Buddhist Scriptures (co-authored, published in 2019, reprinted in 2021) in Jiangsu Phoenix Fine Arts Press. Currently, he is participating in the major project of National Social Science Foundation of China “History of Exchange between Gandhara and Chinese Civilization (Multi-Volume)” (20 & ZD220), directed by Sun Yinggang.

ZHANG Peng, professor and doctoral supervisor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), a member of Art Theory Committee of China Artists Association, is the president and editor-in-chief of ART RESEARCH (journal of CAFA), Vice Chair and associate secretary of CAFA Collaborative Innovation Centre of Silk Road Art Research. She specializes in the fields of Chinese art history, Silk Road art and cultural heritage research. She has authored two scholarly monographs and two compilations, and has published over 60 academic papers. She has led sub-topics in National Social Science Fund Project, and has won several awards in national and ministerial-and-provincial-Level research projects.
