已故著名佛教文献学家左冠明（Stefano Zacchetti）教授早年于意大利威尼斯大学取得博士学位，曾先后在意大利、荷兰、中国、日本、英国等地的知名学府就读或执教，学术成果斐然，在早期印度语与汉译佛典研究与整理、译经制度、早期佛教注释文献等领域作出了诸多突破性贡献。
值此左冠明教授辞世三周年之际，左教授生前任教的牛津大学亚洲与中东研究系（原东方学系）与北京大学佛教研究中心等多家学术机构联合举办全球学者纪念会暨左冠明教授论文集汉译本发布会，以示纪念。
